A new art exhibition opens in Odessa, Ukraine this Monday at 4PM at the Odessa Municipal Museum of Personal Collections. “Odessa Squared” is an exhibition of watercolours dedicated to the celebration of Odessa’s Birthday on the 2nd of September. The paintings are made by a famous “quartet” of Ukrainian artist: Svetlana Mihalevitch, Tatyana Mihova, Andrey Kulikov and Igor Letinskiy.

The exhibition presents over 50 paintings of the streets of Odessa, its architecture and of course the Black Sea. The artists have captured the beauty of their beloved city in every season and under various conditions – the best gift for everyone who admires fine arts and the city of Odessa.

The main attraction of the expo is an experimental project – a giant watercolour painting created by all four artists together. The watercolour of such scale requires a great technical level – the artists have to take into consideration all technical complications, being unable to fix any mistakes, working with oversized brushes and many other. The sketch was developed and chosen by voting. During the development, through trial and error process, over 15 meters of watercolour paper was used.

The curator of the exhibition comments on the project: “Due to a big scale of the painting the viewer will be able to truly submerge into the scenery just like we do in nature – it surrounds and embraces us; when we get to the seaside and get overwhelmed by the landscape. In the same way the artists submerges into the watercolour, dissolves in them, while working on a painting.
