Yumorina on All Fools Day in Odessa Ukraine

All Fools’ Day is celebrated in most of the Christian countries, although it does not always come by this name. While English-speaking countries usually refer to this celebration as All Fools’ Day or April Fools’ Day, others know it as the Day of Laughter or the Day of Humor. On this day, it is customary to play jokes and pranks on co-workers, friends and relatives.

Odessa, a southern Ukrainian town, is famous all over the post-Soviet space for its humor and it is no wonder that Odessa celebrates this day in its own special way. On this day, Odessa holds an annual parade that attracts people from all over Ukraine. The parade has a long history, it was first held almost 40 years ago, back in 1973 and immediately became a huge success. For the following three years, the event is developing and the parade is supplemented with additional attractions, such as various competitions for the public, a show of antique automobiles, free performances of artists and satirists. In 1976, the government bans the parade since many satirists performing during the event criticize the political course of the Soviets. Yumorina disappears from the streets, but it does not die. Many public schools and higher education establishments hold discreet celebrations for their students and staff, the practice that allowed Yumorina to survive until 1987, when the ban was lifted and the parade came back to the streets.

Yumorina in Odessa is a great place to meet this joyous celebration of spring, have some fun and meet new friends. The parade is usually attended by thousands of beautiful Ukrainian girls, so if you are looking for romance, this is the place for you to be.

Jazz Fest Poster

This weekend was the closing for the Second International Jazz Festival in Odessa. For three nights Odessa Philharmonic Theatre turned into a jazz-republic invaded by international guests and jazz-loving beautiful Ukrainian ladies and gentlemen.

The first night was opened by the legend of contemporary jazz – the polish Zbigniew Namyslowski’s quintet. Fantastic performance, though too academic. Well, the next 2 acts were absolutely out of the ordinary. A hot Georgian singer from “Asea Sool” impressed everybody with the abilities of her voice. The musicians combined the traditional jazz rhythms with rock motives and the melody of Georgian highlanders’ folk songs. The audience could hardly sit still and was totally blown away by the next performance by the guests from the South Africa “Soweto Entsha”. Using only their voices, singing a cappella, dancing and clapping, they created a breath-taking show.

The second night was opened by German jazz band “KLAZZ brothers”. They performed artful covers of classical compositions and the piano player was literary dancing while playing. The guests from Switzerland, the classical jazz trio “VEIN”, were quite different with their strong rhythm and impressive solo improvisations. The hit of the evening was the international trio “Brein’s Café” from Austria, Bulgaria and France. The musicians played fantastic covers of popular hits, expressive and with a humour, and the audience was applauding most of the time.

The third night was the night of Jazz Kings. The Italian musician from the trio “Fornarelli” impressed everybody with ability to play three instruments at the same time. Young French guys from “Paradox” each performed with minimum two instruments at the same time, with symbiosis of electronic and jazz music as a result.

The final accords of the evening were played by the piano maestros from Odessa Yuriy Kuznetsov and Sergey Terentev. They both started with a solo and then performed together.

If you’re ever visiting Odessa for business or maybe for meeting a lovely Ukrainian girl, always combine it with a cultural experience like this!

Sailing Race Odessa — Batumi Kicks Off Tomorrow – (SecureDating.com)

Take your beautiful Ukrainian girl for a date on one of the ships that will oversee the start of the Odessa - Batumi regatta

Odessa is up for quite a show tomorrow morning — an international regatta of a kind that has not been seen here for decades is about to launch from the “Odessa” marina that is located in the midst of the city. The regatta will include two long distance races: Odessa-Batumi and Batumi-Odessa and will feature yachts of various sizes and classes. Some of the yachts will carry beautiful Ukrainian women as crew members.

The race will cover more than a thousand nautical miles of the Black sea and will test the resolve of those who chose to partake in the endeavor. While shorter day-races are quite common for the Odessa region, the tradition of long-distance racing has been lost around 20 years ago and many of the younger sailors never been out in sea for more than a day or two. This race will be especially tough on them, since they will have to learn the skills of coping with living in isolation for an extended period of time.

Georgia, the country that is receiving this regatta, is organizing various activities for the crews that are planned to arrive to Batumi at the end of July. The crews will be treated to entertaining tours around the region that is famous for its wine making. Some of the yachts will take part in the Georgia National Cup that will be held around the time when the crews will reach Georgia.

If you are currently staying in Odessa, either on business or dating one of the lovely Ukrainian girls, you can view the start of the race from one of the ships that will take tourists and journalists out to the sea. The pre-race parade and the starting procedure will take just under an hour, then the competitors will go for the open seas and you can continue enjoying your day on one of the lovely Odessa beaches or retreat to a shady restaurant or bistro in the old city.
